Meet the mother and son who give out free Bibles on Lincoln's High Street
10 June 2021
A mum and son who give out free Bibles to the people of Lincoln every week have said they're there to spread kindness, even though not everyone is interested.

Eva Twesigye, 39, and her son Elijah Ssegawa, 12, from North Hykeham, take to the High Street every Saturday, rain or shine.

Their stall includes different religious books as well as the Bible, Eva and Elijah explained that they are committed to serving the community by sharing their kindness to those that can benefit from it.

Ms Twesigye explained that they do not force their views on people, but are just there for interested people.

“We try not to say “free bibles, come and get your bibles!

“We have to know that not many people are interested but we are here for those that are.”

Elijah shared why he enjoys doing it with his mum.

"I do it because we can reach people that don't go to church and would not have had the opportunity otherwise.

“I also love meeting different people and the kind comments that some people make about me.

Elijah and his mum became close when he had two years of homeschooling in Years Three and Four.

“We had a lot of quality time which drew us close together and have been closer than ever since then,” Ms Twesigye explained. “Doing this on Saturdays is the activity that we enjoy doing together. It gets us to share together, he is involved in the conversations I have with the public.”

They also host a group Zoom call on Saturdays, to read through the Bible with anyone who needs help or wants company in doing so. They get different people to speak and Elijah shares his opinion on what he’s read.

Ms Twesigye added how important it is to be kind.

“As human beings, we irritate each other let’s face it but it’s absolutely needed to be kind to your community whether you’re religious or not.

“There’s definitely a community feel to it.”

Ms Twesigye and Elijah continue to be committed to going to the high street every week as they feel like they could miss out on someone receiving their stall.
