Lincoln Christmas Market 2022: Busiest day anticipated to draw in equivalent of city's population

An organiser of Lincoln Christmas Market has said that the busiest day is expected to draw in the equivalent of Lincoln's population. With only a few days until the opening day of the market on Thursday, December 1, Uphill Lincoln is now a buzz of preparation as the layout is beginning to take shape.

Simon Colburn, assistant director for health and environmental services at the City of Lincoln Council is one of several organisers getting the Castle grounds ready for the event. He said that 100,000 people are anticipated to attend the market on Saturday, December 3, compared to Lincoln's population of 103,900.

About the story

This article was an important piece as it predicted that the population of Lincoln would be coming to the market on its busiest day. It did in fact end up being the busiest Christmas market on record which ultimately led to the city council's decision to cancel it entirely.

I showed initiative with this piece as I hadn't planned to speak to Mr Colburn but saw him preparing the market and approached him to ask a few questions for an exclusive piece. The piece also made the front splash that week and had a good response on Facebook and on the site.

It led to several other articles following the cancellation of the market including getting responses from business owners and members of the public regarding the news.
