Disabled Dog Walk organiser ‘overwhelmed' at turnout of Lincoln event

From disabled dogs on wheels to a flurry of west highland terriers, the Disability Dog Walk held at Boultham Park in Lincoln on Sunday, April 10 was a great turnout. The event was organised by Tammie Fox, owner of Pumpkin the paralysed westie, who was born paralysed in both of her back legs.

Tammie rescued Pumpkin from the Lincolnshire dog charity Breed In Need in October 2021. Since then, she has worked hard to raise money for Pumpkin's treatment, including a set of wheels and now uses her big following to help fundraise for dogs with disabilities.

About the story

One of the pieces I have created with audio and visual content that generated a lot of audience engagement was a compilation of videos from a disabled dog walking event in Lincoln. I recorded several different clips from the event, including an interview with Tammie Fox, owner of Pumpkin the disabled puppy and organiser of the event.

I then wrote a piece to go alongside the video content, interviewing some people who were at the event and including some photos of some of the dogs.

I spoke to Tammie back in 2021 when she first got Pumpkin and was raising money to get her some wheels. Since then, she has gained 109k followers on her Pumpkin and Friends Charity Facebook page, so I knew that attending the disabled dog event and bringing it to life with videos of the dogs would be received well by the readers.

I have also created audio and visual content through several Facebook live videos for the Lincolnshire Live Facebook page. One of these lives that did particularly well with audience engagement was a visit to a popular Lincoln butcher two days before Christmas.

Before starting the video, I planned it by organising staff members to come out and speak to me during the live, meaning I could ask them how the business was going at its busiest period. This was a fun, festive and great local news story to make and the video approach worked really well.
