Sadness as twin Bengal tigers put to sleep at Lincolnshire Wildlife Park

The chief executive of Lincolnshire Wildlife Park says it has been a "hard time" for the park after two of its "beautiful" Bengal tigers were put to sleep due to renal failure. Twin sisters Soutanna and Bella, who were both around 10 and a half years old and had been at the park since 2015, were euthanised within the same week of each other.

On Tuesday, March 16, Soutanna was put to sleep followed by her sister Bella on Tuesday, March 21, after blood test results showed that her kidneys were "beyond repair." Steve Nichols, CEO of Lincolnshire Wildlife Park in Boston, has reflected on losing both of the tigers.

About the story

I jumped on this story when I found out via Lincolnshire Wildlife Park's Facebook page that the two Bengal tigers were being put to sleep. With their Facebook having a big following of 125k people, I knew it would perform well for our site to share the news.

I reached out to Steve Nichols, CEO of the park, to get some more information on the situation from his perspective. I also included high-quality photos of the two tigers in the piece, which I asked the wildlife park for permission to use.

The piece performed well on Facebook with 325 likes and received 38,286 page views on the site. Knowing it would do well due to the park's following was also proved by the search results, with the piece receiving a high percentage of the engaged time by search visitors.
