We went to the Lincoln Christmas Market with £20 to see how much we could buy

With Lincoln Christmas Market 2022 now well underway, Uphill Lincoln is full of festive cheer and excitement to mark one of the most important events on the city's calendar. Whilst the market itself is free entry and allows visitors to roam at their own leisure, the cost of living means that people may have to be more careful this year as they dive into their pockets.

Armed with £20 in cash, we decided to visit the market on Thursday, December 1, to see how much we would be able to buy. With a steady flow of visitors, the first day of the market tends to be a little quieter, which can make it easier and less overwhelming to hunt for reasonably priced items.

About the story

Tapping into both the popularity of Lincoln Christmas Market and financial struggles in society, we visited the market on its second day out of four, but with a mission rather than just a normal vox with visitors and stallholders.

I did the best I could to get the best value for money out of £20 at the market, managing to buy myself lunch and a few gifts. With my patch being Lincoln, I know all too well the massive popularity of the market, which was the most highly anticipated event in the city’s calendar.

It is also known by some as being quite expensive, so I wanted to get people engaged and talking about this. With this popularity comes lots of audience interest and caters for the Lincolnshire Live/Echo readership, and for Google Search as visitors come from all over. Stories about these budget buys also perform well for the site - with previous pieces I have done on what I can buy on a budget.
